Bill Schuhmacher, Principal

Bill Schuhmacher is from the USA and is starting his third year as Principal of ISW. He taught secondary Technology in the US for six years. He also owned a small service industry company for 6 years. He has been involved in youth work, counseling, and community leadership. He has traveled the U.S. Canada, China and Southeast Asia and is enjoying living in China with his wife Mrs. Schuhmacher.
Chris Nolin, Vice Principal, Guidance Counselor and Upper School Humanities teacher

Chris Nolin is from the USA and has lived in Japan and has been in China for 2 years. He is Vice Principal, Guidance Counselor and Upper School Humanities teacher. Chris was the Area Chair for Humanities and Social Science at University of Phoenix, West Florida Campus for four years. In 2006, he received the faculty of the year award. Chris is married to Nancy Nolin and they have two sons.
Mr. Qiu Yusheng, Government Liaison and Administrative Consultant
ContactEducation: BA Music, Nanjing Normal University; Postgraduate degree in History, East China Normal University Mr. Qiu has been working in cultural and educational areas for 21 years. He has served as deputy director and director of several educational and cultural bureaus as well as acting as Secretary of the Party Committee. Before coming to ISW, Mr. Qiu was the principal of Wuxi Oriental International School.He currently helps build and maintain relationships between ISW and the various government bureaus as well as consulting with the administrative team in other areas.
Yingna Chen, Office Manager

Yingna Chen is the new Office Manager at ISW. She is from Shanxi province and has a Bachelor degree from Xi’an Technological University. After graduation, she worked at a Broadcast Instrument Company as an engineer in Tianjin. In 1996, she moved to America and later earned her Master degree in technology from Wayne State University. She worked at Ford Motor Company in the US for 10 years and was a crash safety engineer, a projects coordinator and a team leader. She is married and has two children.
LinLin Liu, Director of Promotions

BA, The People’s University of China.
LinLin Liu is originally from China before immigrating to Canada. She is back in China and is starting her second year working in the ISW Promotions Department. Prior to that, she worked as the General Office Manager for another international school in China. She has also worked twelve years in the field of accounting in Canada and before that, three years as a lecturer at a Chinese university. She is married and has two children, both born in Canada. Her children have attended ISW for three years and they are truly enjoying the staff and school environment.
Upper School Staff
Nancy Nolin, Upper School Science

Nancy Nolin is originally from United States, but spent four years of
her early childhood living in England. She is dually certified to
teach secondary science and social studies and had taught upper school
science in Florida for four years prior to coming to ISW in 2007.
Recently, she has begun work towards a Masters degree in education.
Nancy and her husband Chris have two sons.
Rainy Schuhmacher, English

Rainelda "Rainy" Schuhmacher is from the USA and grew up in Hawaii where she received a Bachelors Degree in Speech Communications from the University of Hawaii. She also has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University. Rainy has taught for seven years in a variety of subjects and grade levels and this is her third year as English teacher of ISW.
Melissa McLeod, Math

Melissa McLeod is from the USA and is the secondary math teacher at ISW. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Westmont College with a single subject Mathematics Teaching Credential from the state of California. She has also taken Master’s Degree courses in education. Ms. McLeod taught high school math in California for one year and tutored students for six years. She lived in Japan for nine years when she was growing up.
Luke Roberts, Social Studies

Luke Roberts is from the USA and is the Social Studies teacher at ISW. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Appalachian State University and a Master’s Degree from Columbia International University. Mr. Roberts enjoys studying and teaching subjects from an interdisciplinary perspective, especially history. He also likes to play soccer, tennis, and ultimate Frisbee. He is married to Mrs. Roberts, an ESL teacher at ISW.
Lower School Staff
Chet Sanchez, Junior Kindergarten

Mrs. Sanchez is from the Philippines and is a graduate of St. Scholastica's College, Manila, with Bachelor’s and AB Degrees in Psychology and Guidance and Counseling. She has taught pre-kindergarten in China for 2 years, prior to which Mrs. Sanchez worked in the human resources department in various companies. She enjoys teaching and taking care of children. Mrs. Sanchez is married and has one son.
Ericka Hotchkiss, Kindergarten

Ericka Hotchkiss is from the USA and she teaches Kindergarten at ISW. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University and is certified to teach pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Ms. Hotchkiss is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children.
Courtney Toliver, First Grade

Courtney Toliver is from the USA and is the first grade teacher at ISW. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Elementary Education) and Master’s Degree in Holistic Education. Ms. Toliver loves to sing, read, watch movies and spend time with friends. She also enjoys participating in drama and music and will assist in the music department when possible.
Jo Anna Kolbe, 2nd Grade Teacher

Jo Anna Kolbe is from the USA and teaches second grade at ISW. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Taylor University and student taught first grade in Qingdao, China. Jo Anna has traveled in Honduras and Canada. In her first year at ISW she was awarded Teacher of the Year honors and this is her third year teaching as Second Grade teacher.
Rick McCarthy, 5th Grade

Rick McCarthy is from the USA and teaches fifth grade at ISW for 2 years. He received his Associates Degree in Art and Education from Mount Hood Community College and his Bachelors Degree in Education from Western Oregon University. Rick is a member of the National Science Teachers Association, has traveled in Taiwan, and is studying Mandarin Chinese. He is married to Mrs. McCarthy, an ESL teacher at ISW.

Alison Roberts, Second Language Coordinator

Alison Roberts is from the USA and is the English as a Second Language Coordinator at ISW. She received her Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs and Asian Studies from Florida State University and her Master's Degree in ESL from Columbia International University. Mrs. Roberts has taught in Japan, Eastern Europe, and in the USA. She is married to Luke Roberts, ISW's social studies teacher.
Andrea McCarthy, ESL

Andrea McCarthy is from the USA and is in her third year teaching ESL at ISW. She has a Bachelors Degree in Middle School Education from LeTourneau University. Andrea was raised in Okinawa and speaks Japanese fluently. She is married to Rick McCarthy, ISW's 5th grade teacher.
Anna Wang, ESL Teacher

Anna Wang (Wang Yun Lin) has many years experience in teaching English to International students. Although ISW is only in its second year, Ms. Wang has been teaching on this same campus since 2003. While studying for her Bachelors Degree at Southern Yangtze University, she also taught English part-time on weekends.
Sze Sze Lee, Art Teacher

Sze Sze Lee is from Singapore and has a Bachelors Degree in Education from the National Institute of Education (Nanyang Technological University) in Singapore. She has taught art and English at a private school in Singapore for the past ten years. She has been teaching at ISW 2 years. Sze Sze has traveled to Cambodia, Japan, and China and speaks English and Chinese fluently.
Charis Boersma, Music Teacher

Charis Boersma is from the USA and she teaches music at ISW. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where she also studied piano and oboe. Ms. Boersma grew up in a large and musical family in rural Wisconsin, USA.
Brad Gabbert, IT Coordinator

Brad Gabbert is from the USA and is in his 3rd year at ISW. This year he will be serving as ISW's Information Technology Coordinator. He has a Masters degree in Linguistics/TESOL from Ohio University. He has taught at Ohio State University, at an international school in Chengdu, and at Anhui University of Finance and Trade. He is married to Jing and has four boys.
Chinese Language Department
Julia Zhang, Lead Chinese Teacher
ContactEducation: AS in Electronics, Tianjin Industrial University; she has a Chinese Teacher Certification as well as a certificate from Chinese Teacher Training Center in Beijing
Julia Zhang (Zhang Shu Ping) is from Jilin Province. She is starting her 3rd year at ISW and is a certified Chinese language teacher and department head at ISW. She graduated from Tianjin Industrial University with an Associates Degree in Electronics. She worked in a Chinese Language Training Center for foreigners for 2 years. She also interned at the International Academy of Beijing and Shenyang International School.. Ms. Zhang enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with students.
Esther Fan, Chinese Teacher

Esther Fan (Fan Yu Hua) is from Qingdao. Ms. Fan taught Chinese language in a language training center for two years. She is beginning her 3rd year as Chinese language at ISW.
Marilyn Mao, Chinese
ContactEducation: BS in Mathematics, Jingzhou Normal University
Marilyn Mao is a Chinese Language teacher and is in her third year at ISW. She has a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, from Jingzhou Normal University and is a certified teacher. Ms. Mao is from Huanggang in Hubei province. She has taught high school mathematics in a Chinese school and has previously served as a teaching assistant in Kindergarten at ISW and in first grade at WOIS. She enjoys reading and sports and loves to teach.
