Mourning the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake

Dear All,

Everyone at International School of Wuxi has been very saddened by the many lives lost in the Sichuan earthquake on May 12th. The Bible says that we are to "mourn with those who mourn." ISW faculty, staff, students and parents are truly mourning the loss of so many people in this disaster.

The Chinese government has asked everyone in China to observe 3 days of mourning starting at 2:28 pm on Monday, May 19th until Wednesday, the 21st..They've asked us to observe 3 minutes of silence to remember those who died and lift up the needs of those living and grieving in the earthquake zone. ISW and International Schools of China will solemnly participate in this observance.

We are also committed to collecting money for the relief effort. We are taking up a collection from May 19th to the 23rd for the immediate needs in the disaster area. The administration of Chengdu International School has agreed to distribute this money raised at ISW to go directly to the needs in the disaster area. Contributors have been encouraged to put their donations into an envelope marked "earthquake" and place it in a container in the school's main office.

May God comfort the people of Sichuan Province.

Solemnly,

Bill Schuhmacher
ISW Principal

Principal's Message

To the ISW Community:

International School of Wuxi has had a great first year. I am proud of our students, who are from all over the world and the staff who have made ISW the best international school around. We have worked very hard to blend an academically challenging curriculum with a caring environment. Thinking back to August 2007, I’m amazed by how much the students have grown in every aspect! Many memories were made at ISW in 2007-2008. The following are some of the major events at ISW this year:

  • We held International Day in November, celebrating the ethnic groups represented in our school. They shared many cultural traditions, foods, and folklore.

  • In December, we had the Christmas Jubilee at the Kempinski Hotel. It was wonderful! The students performed songs and dramas to celebrate the Christmas story.

  • In February, we celebrated China Week in honor of our host country with all its traditions and history.

  • In March, we had Spirit Week. Students had fun showing school spirit and competing in the Mao Wars! The students raised 5,000 RMB to give to a needy school on the outskirts of Wuxi. We ended Spirit Week with a competitive field day with games and a final rope pull!

  • In April, the secondary students went to Beijing where they explored much of the rich history of that city.

  • On May 12, 2008, there was a terrible earthquake in Sichuan Province. We felt very sad for all the suffering people. The Chinese government sanctioned 3 days of mourning for the whole country including 3 minutes of silence around the Chinese flag on May 19th. ISW collected funds to help with the earthquake relief. Thanks to all of you for caring enough to give.

  • On May 23rd we had our Spring Concert and Art Exhibition which was a big success. Nice job students!

  • In June we graduated our 5th graders into middle school and said goodbye to all the students who are going back to their home countries. We will miss you!

We are thankful to God who has protected us and provided for us all throughout the year. May God continue to bless you over the summer holiday and we’ll see some of you back here next year!

With warm regards,

Mr. Bill Schuhmacher

About Us

The newly established International School of Wuxi (ISW) is a K-12 international school managed by International Schools of China (ISC), a growing system of independent international schools in mainland China. Since 1986 ISC schools have been providing educational experiences for expatriate families that integrate a Judeo-Christian world view with a rigorous academic program in mainland China.

In cooperation with the Wuxi Municipal Education Bureau, ISW offers an English-language based kindergarten through grade 12 program for expatriate students of all religions, races, and national backgrounds except where prohibited by law. ISW offers a North American curriculum and system of instruction that is college preparatory in both scope and level of difficulty. The International School of Wuxi is more than just a school; it is a partnership with parents to provide quality education for young minds.

Membership/Accreditation

The International School of Wuxi is seeking accreditation with the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), an accrediting agency comprised of the premier American educational accrediting agencies. CITA accredits more than 30,000 public and private educational institutions in 100 countries, touching over 10 million students.

ISW is also registered as an international school with the National Education Bureau and the Wuxi Education Bureau and is pursuing membership in the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS).
